Hundreds of riot police were deployed at Ploenchit Intersection, underneath the sky train station, while red shirts leaders called for the protesters to form barricades to counter police. Meanwhile, dozens of foreign tourists and local Thai people watched the stand-off from the pedestrian bridge above. BTS had suspended all of their train services and many tourists were left stranded in a war zone. The stand-off lasted for several hours until finally the police retreated.
